Depending on the time of year we have between 150 and 400 sheep at Laverock. They are predominantly Texel and Swaledale, although a few Herdwicks, Rough Fells and Shetlands have made their home here to.
The 50 acres around the farm offer a variety of challenges for Sheepdogs and their handlers, we can offer basic sheepdog training lessons (including round pen if required), or we have a flat easy view 10 acre field which we host a Nursery Sheepdog Trial on each year.
Our 6 acre field offers a chance for dogs to have to work out of sight of their handler, and our Pasture offers a hillside with stream, rushes, bracken etc, ideal for practising look back commands or a small double gather.
We are happy to help you with your training or for more experienced dogs/handlers you are welcome to work the sheep alone.
For those dogs who are not house-trained we offer a fully enclosed kennel block with house and large run. Please check at time of booking for availability on this.
At occasional times in the Year we are involved in a large fell gather and are happy for competent dogs to take part.
